Vacation Time
OPEN VACATION POLICY
At Bernards we believe that it is important for employees to have regular periods of rest and
relaxation away from the workplace. In order to live a well-balanced life, we all need to take
time off to relax and rejuvenate.
We also believe employees should take responsibility for managing their time to achieve a
balance between work and life outside of work. To this end, we’ve adopted an Open Vacation
Policy which allows our full-time employees to take planned vacations as needed.
When requesting vacation time, employees must follow the steps below:
• Employee makes the request in the B360 Employee Gateway and provides details on
who will cover their work under “Request Description.”
• The pending request in B360 is reviewed by the employee’s Manager and then will be
either approved or denied.
• If approved, the employee is responsible for communicating their vacation time to fellow
employees and posting their vacation time on the teams shared calendar.
Vacation time must be requested at least 30 days in advance to ensure workflow is not
disrupted and fellow employees covering their work can make necessary adjustments. Vacation
time requests which exceed two consecutive weeks must be made at least six months in
advance. Additionally, employees may only request vacation time which won’t cause
significant disruption to client services or Company operations. Newly hired employees may
request vacation time after completing sixty days of employment.
Managers will review and approve vacation requests according to business needs ensuring that
service to customers is not compromised and that a viable plan is in place to ensure each
employee’s responsibilities will be properly covered during vacation time. Failure to request time
off from work in a timely manner, and using the proper request procedures as noted above,
may result in denial of the request.
As employees will not “accrue” vacation days under this policy, no compensation for “unused”
vacation time is distributed when an employee leaves the Company.
Time off due to illness and/or injury or leaves of absence such as those covered under Family
and Medical Leave are handled separately. The Open Vacation Policy cannot be used for
these types of absences. Please refer to the company’s policies in the Employee Handbook or
contact Human Resources should you have questions pertaining to other types of leaves.
The Open Vacation Policy is intended to build bonds of trust in working relationships while
providing the employee time off to relax and rejuvenate for a well-balanced life. If an
employee’s work performance declines significantly due to abuse of this policy, the Company
reserves the right to review the employee’s use of this policy and to implement corrective
measures.
